American Armed Forces Executes Lethal Strike in Eastern Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities
As stated by a high-ranking defense official, the US military executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a vessel operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”
Background and Prior Strikes
This announcement comes a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to escalate the military presence.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 strikes have killed at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Actions Amidst Scrutiny
The administration has encountered growing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, arguing it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.
Although the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to suggest a wider political aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”
This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
