Both Deceased Students Identified in the Providence Campus Attack as Authorities Press On With Hunt for Perpetrator.

The pair of scholars who were killed in Saturday’s tragic incident on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their killer carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a service on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, the group said. The White House press secretary also expressed sympathies on social media, stating: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and aiding others,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine more persons were injured in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-old male arrested in a search at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our public”.

The shooter discharged a weapon inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a police source reported to the media outlet.

Officers that raided the lodging found a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the suspect was detained, as was reported.

The Wounded Victims

Regarding the nine injured, one pupil was released from the hospital, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private academy in Durham, North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Further Tributes

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only in her youth... but at Brown she was a radiant presence in that institution as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the group. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and peers and mourn the loss of his promising future.”

Broader Statistics
