Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.
The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
