Shock as Renowned South African DJ Gunned Down in Johannesburg.
A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old presenter was accosted by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose behind the shooting is unknown and no one has been arrested are in custody, as per the official statement.
Details of the Attack
Police revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the site supervising the installation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the man was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement said.
Surveillance tape showed a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but fell down on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were recovered from the scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to contact them.
"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the shooting, and officers have been attempting to locate them to establish their destination," stated a police chief.

His family member, a close relative, stated the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.
"I am devastated. I don't have words," she stated.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about subjects not many people were prepared to tackle. This is a devastating blow."
She appealed to the public to refrain from sharing explicit content from the scene, saying this was an deeply traumatic time, especially for Stock's children.

In a release, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, warmth and quick humor, adding that his legacy "will live on".
