The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their first World Series after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three victory in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the anticipated championship.
"It's incredible for this squad, our city, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third on the list after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd choose in that situation other than him with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it's painful" in the wake of his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their performance in the campaign.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of this game," he remarked.
The Blue Jays claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
