The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the music selection.
This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
