The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
