The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
